The huge surge in racist hate crimes in Waltham Forest last year was not caused by anti-east Asian Covid conspiracies, new data indicates.

wfcwSerial rapist Joseph McCann minimum jail term increased
11 December 2020

Two notorious criminals who are serving life sentences for some of the worst offences of rape ever tried in England and Wales have had their minimum jail terms increased by the Court of Appeal.
Joseph McCann, 35, was given 33 life sentences at the Old Bailey last December for a string of sex attacks on 11 women and children – one aged 11 – during a 15-day cocaine and vodka-fuelled rampage. McCann began his reign of terror when he kidnapped and raped a 21-year-old woman walking home from Pryzm nightclub in Watford. Four days later, McCann abducted two women from Walthamstow and Edgware. A 25-year-old woman was kidnapped just a few metres from her home in Walthamstow after midnight on April 25. Over the next 14 hours, McCann raped her repeatedly, driving her to different parts of north London and into Epping Forest. McCann then forced a 21-year-old woman into his car in Edgware. The women managed to escape after he tried to book a hotel room in Watford and the 25-year-old hit McCann over the head with a vodka bottle.
Reynard Sinaga, 37, was handed a life sentence at Manchester Crown Court in January after being convicted of more than 150 offences, including 136 counts of rape, committed against 48 men – although police have linked him to more than 190 potential victims.
The Attorney General’s Office referred the 30-year minimum jail terms handed to McCann and Sinaga to the Court of Appeal as “unduly lenient” earlier this year.

Campaigners are calling for extra powers to stop anti-social behaviour in parks after the situation reached “breaking point”.
Waltham Forest councillors Selina Seesunkur and Jemma Hemsted last year called for a Public Space Protection Order for the green spaces at The Mount, Albert Crescent and Memorial Park, saying street drinking and anti-social behaviour had become commonplace.
The order would mean enforcement officers – volunteers who work alongside the police and the council to patrol public areas – could issue on-the-spot fines of up to £400.
The Labour-run council rejected this saying there was not enough evidence of the need for an order.
But after a street-cleaner was recently attacked while on duty in South Chingford, the two councillors are urging the public to sign a petition to strengthen a future application.
Cllr Hemsted (Con, Valley) said: “The situation is at breaking point and is totally unacceptable and will not be allowed to continue. The Mount should be a place for all residents to enjoy and not for a small minority to ruin.“We really hope that all residents will get behind our campaign so that we might all have a much more peaceful summer.”
