London crime: More than a quarter of all knife crimes last year were committed by under-18s 2 April 2021 read … Shocking crime figures have laid bare the scale of London's youth knife crime epidemic, with more than a quarter of all knife and offensive weapon offences registered in 2020 being attributed to people under the age of 18. The government data set, which looks at yearly sentencing for knife and offensive weapon offences in London, found that 987 teenagers between the age of 16-18, and 744 children in the age range of 10-15, had been convicted of knife offences last year. In total, 6,457 instances of knife crime resulted in sentencing in the capital last year, with youth convictions amounting to a proportional share of 26.8 per cent. A spokesperson for the Met told My London: "We know violence affects young people, as both victims and perpetrators, more than older age groups in London. Tackling violent crime is the top priority of everyone in the Met. |

Waltham Forest hate crime rise not due to Covid conspiracies 31 March 2021 read … The huge surge in racist hate crimes in Waltham Forest last year was not caused by anti-east Asian Covid conspiracies, new data indicates. While a Met Police spokesperson suggested last month that “certain communities were targeted due to the pandemic”, only eight crimes against east Asian people were reported last year. The vast majority of the more than 500 hate crimes in the borough were against black, white and south Asian people, with more than 100 incidents affecting each group. The data, obtained by Freedom of Information request, also shows that less than a fifth of these reports resulted in any action against the criminal, such as a charge or caution. |
Appeal for information over Amaan Shakoor murder in Walthamstow 2 April 2021 read … The detective leading the search for the gunmen who killed a 16-year-old boy has urged anyone with information “to break the wall of silence” surrounding his death. Amaan Shakoor was outside Walthamstow Leisure Centre on the evening of April 2, 2018 when he was approached by two males. He was shot in the head. Police and paramedics rushed to the scene and Amaan was taken to hospital. He spent the night in a critical condition and died the next day. Detective Chief Inspector Perry Benton, from Metropolitan Police, said: “Three years have passed since this horrific incident that took a young man from his family. “They deserve justice and the chance to have some sort of closure. We will not rest until we identify those responsible and bring them before the courts.” |

Walthamstow man charged by police probing car theft 18 March 2021 read ... An 18-year-old man was stabbed in his neck and killed yesterday in Walthamstow. Police were called to reports of a stabbing in Lea Bridge Road at 5.20pm. Emergency services rushed to the scene were an 18-year-old man was found with a stab wound to his neck. CPR was performed but the victim was pronounced dead at 6.08pm. There have been no arrests and police say they do not believe the attack to be ‘gang related’. |

He was pronounced dead at the scene, near the busy street’s junction with Grove Road. His mother and brother were also found with slash wounds to their hands. |

Police were called to Newport Road in Leyton shortly after 9pm. There was a male with stab wounds at the scene. He is said to be in his 20s. Police charge three teenagers after Walthamstow burglary 14 February 2921 read … Three teenagers have been charged in connection with an aggravated burglary. On the afternoon of Monday January 11, Met Police were called to reports of a burglary at a home in Beresford Road, Walthamstow. Detectives have been investigating the incident and have issued an update. Police say two 17-year-old boys were charged on February 11 with aggravated burglary and possession of a bladed article. They were remanded in custody before appearing at Stratford Magistrates' Court on Friday. |

Police find Rambo-style knives in Highams Park 5th February 2021 read … Police found two stashed Rambo-style knives following a foot chase with three suspects. On the evening of Wednesday, February 3, officers were patrolling in Selwyn Avenue, Highams Park, when they saw a group of three males who, upon seeing the police, ran off. Officers gave chase, catching two of the males, a 21-year-old man and 16-year-old boy. The third male managed to escape officers. Sniffer dogs were called in to search the area where the males had been and found two Rambo-style knives. |

Some members of Waltham Forest Council's communities scrutiny committee complained last night that reports lacked substance, particularly an update on antisocial behaviour that was less than 150 words long. Cllr Mitchell Goldie (Con, Endlebury) said it is difficult for elected members to scrutinise how council and police resources are used if they are not kept informed. He found it particularly alarming that Operation 20x20x20, a joint operation between the council and police launched last month, was “news to him”. |

Five sought in connection with aggravated burglary in Walthamstow 14 January 2021 read … Detectives are appealing for people to come forward after an aggravated burglary in Walthamstow. On Monday, 11 January 2021 at approximately 14:30hrs, a man wearing an orange high visibility jacket knocked on the door at a residential address in Beresford Road, E17 and stated that he was a delivery driver. Once the resident opened the door, four other suspects forced their way into the address, all were armed with knives. The suspects entered several rooms in the house, searching for valuable items to steal. The five suspects stole jewellery, phones, passports, iPads, a designer handbag, ear pods, ID cards and designer watches from the address. Police are making an appeal to the public for any witnesses or information in relation to the suspects that could result in their identification. Anyone with information or who recognises the suspects is asked to contact police via 101 quoting reference CAD 3600/11JAN21 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. There have been no arrests and enquiries continue. |
Waltham Forest reports of racist hate crimes rose post-Covid 8th February 2021 read … Waltham Forest saw a huge surge in reports of racist hate crimes in the first few months of the pandemic - and they have yet to return to normal levels. The number of racist hate crimes reported to police every month went from 19 in April last year to 55 in May, rising even higher to 65 in June. Neighbouring Hackney and Redbridge both saw sharp rises in the summer but returned to pre-pandemic levels in winter, whereas the trend in Waltham Forest seems to be continuing. In December, the last month for which statistics are available, 50 racist hate crimes were reported, well above the average of 36 a month recorded for the past four years. Data on the Mayor of London’s website shows people were most likely to be victimised in the south of the borough, particularly Grove Green ward, where 57 crimes were reported. |

Serial rapist Joseph McCann minimum jail term increased 11 December 2020 read ... Two notorious criminals who are serving life sentences for some of the worst offences of rape ever tried in England and Wales have had their minimum jail terms increased by the Court of Appeal. Joseph McCann, 35, was given 33 life sentences at the Old Bailey last December for a string of sex attacks on 11 women and children – one aged 11 – during a 15-day cocaine and vodka-fuelled rampage. McCann began his reign of terror when he kidnapped and raped a 21-year-old woman walking home from Pryzm nightclub in Watford. Four days later, McCann abducted two women from Walthamstow and Edgware. A 25-year-old woman was kidnapped just a few metres from her home in Walthamstow after midnight on April 25. Over the next 14 hours, McCann raped her repeatedly, driving her to different parts of north London and into Epping Forest. McCann then forced a 21-year-old woman into his car in Edgware. The women managed to escape after he tried to book a hotel room in Watford and the 25-year-old hit McCann over the head with a vodka bottle. Reynard Sinaga, 37, was handed a life sentence at Manchester Crown Court in January after being convicted of more than 150 offences, including 136 counts of rape, committed against 48 men – although police have linked him to more than 190 potential victims. The Attorney General’s Office referred the 30-year minimum jail terms handed to McCann and Sinaga to the Court of Appeal as “unduly lenient” earlier this year. |

Police appeal after series of Waltham Forest sexual assaults 26 November 2020 read … Three women and a teenage girl were sexually assaulted in a five-hour spree of "linked" attacks in Waltham Forest. The four assaults, which police have described as "linked", all took place in Waltham Forest between approximately 7.25am and midday on Tuesday, October 20. Detectives investigating the assaults have only now, one month later, released CCTV footage of a man wanted for questioning in connection with the attacks. Thieves used an electronic device to open the £100,000 car in Chingford before making off with it, the Sun newspaper reported. Walthamstow C17 gang member jailed 5 October 2020 read … A gang member has been jailed after being caught wearing a hoodie and in possession of “items used in drug supply”. Calito Hall has been imprisoned for 20 months for breaching an injunction – designed to disrupt the operations of the C17 gang in Thurrock – six times. The 21-year-old, from Walthamstow, is banned from making entering parts of Thurrock, making drill music video, wearing hoodies or face coverings and associating with other C17 members. Gang members must give Essex Police all details of their social media profiles and are banned from congregating in a public place in groups of two or more. Despite the order, Hall was caught wearing a hooded top, being in possession of mobile phones which weren’t registered under the injunction, and being in possession of items used in drug supply. At a hearing at Chelmsford County Court on Friday, October 2, Hall, of Lewis Avenue, was sentenced to 20-weeks in prison. |

Leyton man who stabbed wife 21 times to death jailed 1st September 2020 read … A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment after stabbing his wife 21 times to death. Yi Xing Song, 54, of Mangolia Close in Leyton, pleaded guilty to the murder of 35-year-old Li-Qing Wang at the Old Bailey, and was sentenced with a minimum term of 19 years. Li-Qing was found with multiple stab injuries at the address on February 25, with Song lying next to the body pretending to be unconscious before he was arrested on suspicion of murder. |
Man jailed for raping woman in Leytonstone 2 October 2020 read … A man who raped a woman as she was walking home after a night out with friends in Leytonstone has been jailed for nine years On January 26 of this year, Leon Rochester followed the victim along Leytonstone High Road before approaching her and offering to buy her a drink. The 33-year-old then walked with the victim to a secluded location off Kirkdale Road where he raped her, ignoring repeated pleas for him to stop. The woman eventually managed to break free and run away. |

Woman fought off attempted rapist in Walthamstow 27 August 2020 read ... A woman fought off an attacker who attempted to rape her in the early hours of morning while she was walking home. Police have only now released an e-fit image of a man they want to question in connection with the incident in Walthamstow on July 25. A woman was walking home along Church Hill at about 2.40am when the incident happened. As she reached the zebra crossing near Folkestone Road she became aware of a man who followed her towards a small park in East Avenue. A struggle ensued and the woman managed to fight off the attacker who is reported to have touched her inappropriately. The man then ran away and the woman called police. |

The crash happened in Bow Road on Friday July 3, and Mr McCombie died in hospital on July 11. |

Police were called to Larkshall Road, Chingford to reports of a man with stab injuries near to the railway crossing on Jubilee Avenue by Highams Park. Before the London Ambulance Service arrived, officers carried out first aid to the 18-year-old. He was rushed to an east London hospital and his injuries are believed to be life threatening. The victim, 25, was walking her dog in an alleyway beneath Ridgeway Park, Waltham Forest, on Monday (July 20) when she was approached by a man sometime between 3.30pm and 4.30pm. Man arrested after woman shot through front door in Walthamstow 9th June 2020 read ... Police have arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder after a woman was shot.Police and ambulance services were called to shots fired in Banbury Road, Walthamstow, at around 11.40pm on March 3, where a woman, 30, was found with gunshot injuries. The woman was rushed to hospital and her condition was found to be on-life threatening. It is believed the suspect – or possibly suspects – fired from the street through the front door, which struck the victim. Today (June 9) the Met’s Violent Crime Taskforce arrested a man, 32, on suspicion of attempted murder, possession of ammunition and possession of class A and B drugs. |

Two men who posed as workmen to carry out a series of commercial burglaries across London – including the theft of more than quarter of a million pounds from a bank – has been sentenced. Jason Perry, 48, of Clover Court in Waltham Forest, was involved in six burglaries across London, including the theft of more than £200,000 from a bank in Whitechapel. He pleaded guilty at Snaresbrook Crown Court today and was sentenced to eight years in jail. |

Man rushed to hospital after Walthamstow stabbing 2 June 2020 read ... A man has been rushed to hospital after a stabbing this afternoon. Police were called to Boundary Road, Walthamstow at around 4.53pm today (June 2) to reports of a stabbing. The victim, said to be in his 20s, was quickly taken to hospital. An air ambulance was seen landing at Thomas Gamuel Park, next to Boundary Road. Metropolitan Police say that his condition is currently unknown and no arrests have yet been made. Officers remain at the scene and police have warned that there are several road closures in place on Boundary Road and Colchester Road. |

Jaden Moodie: 'Chances missed' to protect boy groomed by dealers 26 May 2020 read … The 14-year-old was stabbed to death in Bickley Road, Leyton in a drugs turf war after being groomed by drug dealers had been arrested in a crack den months earlier but police did not contact child exploitation staff, a report has found. At the time of his death Jaden was living with his grandmother in Leyton. His mother, Jada Bailey, had been sleeping on friends' sofas while she waited to be rehoused. She had told housing officers she was trying to keep her son out of trouble and was keen to find somewhere for them to live in Waltham Forest, the report said. She was allocated a flat two weeks before Jaden was stabbed to death. The review found Ms Bailey and Jaden's housing needs "could have been handled in a timelier manner", especially as his vulnerability to exploitation became clear. |

Detectives investigating the death of a man who died in hospital 16 days after he was found unconscious have made a third arrest. Chingford resident Mark Barber was found unconscious in Peacock Close shortly before midnight on Sunday, April 19. The 62-year-old was taken to an east London Hospital where he died on Tuesday, May 5. A post-mortem examination at Queens Road Mortuary gave the provisional cause of death as a head injury. Homicide detectives from the Specialist Crime Command have made a third arrest. |

Investigation in place after man stabbed to death in Walthamstow 1 April 2020 read ... A murder investigation has been launched and a man was arrested following a fatal stabbing. Police were called to reports of a man seriously injured on Alexandra Road, Walthamstow, on Tuesday (March 31) at 10.55pm. Three men charged with attempted murder in connection with Chingford firearm incident 2 April 2020 read … Nooha Sillah, 18, of Armstrong Avenue, Woodford Green, appeared at Thames Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, April 1 charged with attempted murder, possession of firearm with intent to endanger life, possession with intent to supply class A drugs, and possession of cannabis. Two co-defendants - Darren John Stafford, 22,of Aldriche Way, Chingford, and Benjamin Agyeman-Badu, 21, also of Aldriche Way - were charged on March 18, 2019, with attempted murder, and possession of firearm with intent to endanger life. They first appeared at Thames Magistrates’ Court on March 18. They have all been remanded in custody, and are next due to appear at The Old Bailey at a later date to be confirmed. Two men charged with drugs offences following early morning raids 26 March 2020 read … Two men have been charged with drugs offences, Scotland Yard has confirmed. The two men were arrested and charged following a recent proactive operation by the Metropolitan Police to suppress drug dealing in the Waltham Forest borough. Mohamed Mohamed, 19, and Yusef Nur, 29, both of no fixed address, were charged on Tuesday, March 24 with conspiracy to supply Class A drugs. Both men will appear at Stratford Magistrates’ Court later today (Thursday, March 26). The men were arrested on March 4 following early morning warrants by the north-east Proactive Gangs Unit and Territorial Support Group. |

Officers were called to reports of a fight at Broad Oak Close, Chingford on Friday (March 27) at 5am. Three men, aged in their mid-twenties, were found suffering stab injuries at the scene. They were rushed to hospital and were discharged later that day. Another 28-year-old man, separate from the group of three, was arrested and released on bail. |

Yesterday evening, at about 9pm, police officers responded to reports of a group of youths fighting with weapons in Manston Court. Met officers attend along with the London Ambulance Service; four males, aged between 15 and 16 were taken to hospital with stab injuries - none believed to be life-threatening. A Met spokesperson said: “Seven arrests have been made in total for offences including violent disorder, affray, and possession of an offensive weapon. Officers remain at the scene and a crime scene is in place. Enquiries into the circumstances continue.” A section 60 was put in place until 7am this morning – granting frontline officers the power to conduct stop and searches without establishing “reasonable grounds” – in the Walthamstow, Leyton and Leytonstone areas. Early morning Walthamstow raids lead to 24 arrests 4 March 2020 read … A series of early morning raids targeting suspected drug dealers across Walthamstow this morning led to 24 arrests. Over 300 officers executed warrants across 27 addresses in the St James’s Street area of Walthamstow at 5am today (Wednesday, March 4). Detectives seized suspected class A and B drugs, large amounts of cash and several zombie style knives. The arrested suspects, males aged between 16 and 32 years old, have been taken into custody. The early morning operations followed a five-month investigation – in partnership with Waltham Forest Council – as part of a proactive operation to tackle the drivers of violent crime and act on community concerns. Over the last year, Waltham Forest Council has been working with police to tackle anti-social behaviour, drugs, and violent crime, under its Violence Reduction Partnership (VRP) scheme. Waltham Forest cabinet member for community safety, Cllr Ahsan Khan, added: “Waltham Forest’s VRP delivers a public health approach to violence, by working alongside the criminal justice systems which respond to crime. “The VRP recognises that many young people caught up in the drugs trade are groomed by adult criminal networks, and works shoulder-to-shoulder with communities, the Metropolitan Police, health and education services to ensure vulnerable young people provided with the right support at the right time to escape criminal exploitation and recover from the trauma they have experienced.” |

Man arrested on suspicion of murder after woman dies in Leyton 25 February 2020 read ... A man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a 35-year-old woman who was found stabbed to death at a residential property. Metropolitan Police officers were called to a property in Magnolia Close, Leyton, at around 11.50am this morning to reports of concern for residents' welfare. Medics from London Ambulance Service and London Air Ambulance also attended and found the woman with suspected stab wounds. Despite treatment she was pronounced dead at the scene. A 54-year-old man who was inside the property was arrested and is currently in police custody. |
Detectives name woman found with fatal stab wounds at Leyton residential address 27 February 2020 read … Murder detectives have named a woman who died after being found with multiple stab wounds at a residential address in Leyton. Li Qing Wang, 35, was found in an address in Magnolia Close suffering from fatal injuries just before midday yesterday (Tuesday, February 25). Teenager who smashed police officer's head gets suspended sentence 18th February 2020 read ... A police constable has called for guaranteed time behind bars for those who assault officers after a teenager who slammed his head into a patio received a suspended sentence. PC Darren Jenkins, 47, was left with facial injuries that shocked his family after Riley Hope, 18, smashed his head into a patio and punched him in the face, breaking his nose. The teenager had crashed a moped into a concrete post during the morning rush hour in Leyton, east London, on January 23. As officers moved in to arrest him he ran off, with Pc Jenkins giving chase and finding him hiding in a conifer bush. In the ensuing struggle, Hope repeatedly punched the constable and hit his head on the paving slabs. On Friday at Thames Magistrates' Court, Hope was given a six-month prison sentence suspended for two years, and 200 hours unpaid work, after admitting assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Pc Jenkins, who is still off work with his injuries, said: "I love protecting the public, but who protects us? |

Man kicked friend to death over £30 debt 31 January 2020 read … A thug who brutally kicked a pal to death following a "petty" argument over a £30 debt has been jailed for manslaughter. David Dalling, 45, left 60-year-old Hubert Hall dying face down on the pavement in a pool of his own blood after the "vicious" attack. Wood Green Crown Court heard the pair starting rowing over the cash at about 6.30am on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 after a night of drinking. Dalling threw Mr Hall to the ground before kicking him six times in the head. He then picked up items that had fallen from his victim's pockets before delivering a seventh "sickening" kick to his head and calmly walking away. |
Leytonstone attempted murderer jailed for minimum of 12 years 18 February 2020 read … A 29-year-old man has been jailed after being found guilty of attempted murder in broad daylight for a minimum of 12 years. Reece Burton, of no fixed address, was previously found guilty of attempting to shoot another man and possession of a firearm at the Old Bailey on Wednesday, December 11, 2019. The court heard how Burton armed himself with a loaded firearm and travelled to Birch Road, Leytonstone on the morning of Monday, June 17, 2019. When the 28-year-old victim left his house at around 11:30am, Burton discharged the firearm at least twice. One of the shots struck the victim in the neck, narrowly missing vital arteries and blood vessels. Staggering home, the victim was convinced he was dying, while Burton fled the scene on a bicycle. |

The gang were arrested by police after boasting about the attack in on 'drill' rap music videos. Tyrell Graham, 18, of Leyton, was jailed for life, to serve a minimum of 25 years for his role in the calculated plan to attack a rival gang. On the night of February 22, 2019, the group of seven males – including Graham, Sheareem Cookhorn, 21, Jayden O’Neil-Crichlow, 17, Shane Lyons, 17, Ojay Hamilton, 17, and two individuals unknown to the police – rode to Wood Green on bikes in search of rivals. |

A 17-year-old girl killed in a drive-by shooting was shot by a "gun for hire" used in another murder, Scotland Yard said. Tanesha Melbourne-Blake was socialising with friends when she was shot dead from a vehicle in Tottenham, in April 2018. A month earlier, 20-year-old Joseph Williams-Torres was killed in a case of mistaken identity in Walthamstow. A machete-wielding motorist who left a policeman with six head wounds and a fractured skull allegedly told officers "my life is worth more than his life", a court heard. Muhammad Rodwan, slashed 29-year-old PC Stuart Outten with a foot-long blade in August after a routine traffic stop went terrifyingly wrong, the Old Bailey was told. The 'ferocious and savage' attack also left the officer with an arm wound and fractured fingers, the court heard. A teenager has been found guilty of the "cowardly and shocking" gang murder of a 14-year-old boy who was knocked off a moped and stabbed to death. Drug dealer Ayoub Majdouline, 19, was one of five youths linked to the Mali Boys who drove around east London in a stolen Mercedes looking for members of the Beaumont Crew gang to attack. Riyaz Adam, 25, of Pearcroft Road, Leytonstone, appeared at the Old Bailey charged with murder, attempted murder, and perverting the course of justice. Following a trial, today (Thursday, November 28) was found guilty of manslaughter after the jury returned not guilty verdicts for murder and attempted murder. Adam had pleaded guilty to the perverting the course of justice before the trial started. He will be sentenced on Wednesday, December 4, at the same court. |

Glen Appleby, 53, of Chingford, and his accomplice Marc Warner attempted to post the class A drugs using a high-end department store shipping service, in Brompton Road, Knightsbridge. The court heard how on Saturday, March 9 security staff at the store became suspicious of the two men after watching them on CCTV trade items while hidden behind a bookshelf. |

Joseph Williams-Torres, 20, was targeted by three hooded youths as he sat in a van with a friend in Walthamstow, east London on the evening of March 14 last year. The attackers had spied Mr Williams-Torres, then pulled out a gun and fired before running off in less than two minutes, the Old Bailey was told. The victim was hit in the chest and legs and died on his way to hospital less than an hour later. |

British Transport Police appeal following Victoria line assault 11 October 2019 read … Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward following a rush hour assault. The victim, a man in his thirties, was repeatedly punched in the face on board a Victoria Line train in north London. The assault happened at approximately 7.40am on September 16; British Transport Police have only just issued an appeal for information. The victim had asked another man to be quiet as he was shouting. The man responded by assaulting the victim, causing a cut to his inner lip, laceration to his eyebrow and a dislodged tooth. A 28-year-old man from Walthamstow was arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm. He has since been bailed as enquiries continue. |
Man jailed after shots were fired in High Road Leyton last year 12 October 2019 read … A man has been jailed for firearms offences after shots were fired at a group of people in a street. Daniel Fakoya, 18, of Priory Court, E17 was one of three men travelling down High Road, Leyton, when they began shooting from their Volvo at around 11pm on December 17 last year. The armed gang then chased two men into an off-licence but after losing sight of them, they left. They jumped back into the car and sped away from the scene. But within five minutes, the car had crashed into a shopfront in St James' Street, E17. The gang fled the crash scene and when police searched the abandoned car, they found a handgun, ammunition and two bottles of ammonia. The handgun was located in the driver's footwell. |

Officers were called at 9:27am on Tuesday, September 17, to reports of a man suffering gunshot injuries at a residential block in Lansdowne Road, Walthamstow. Aman Vyas, 35, was charged upon his arrival at Heathrow Airport on Friday, October 4, after he was extradited from India back in 2009. He has been charged with the murder and rape of Michelle Samaraweera who died after being attacked in Walthamstow on May 30, 2009. Other offences are alleged to have taken place at locations across Walthamstow between March 24, 2009 and May 30 2009. Glendon Spence, 23, and his friends sought refuge at the Marcus Lipton Youth Centre in Brixton, south London, when two hooded teenagers arrived armed with large knives and ran at them, the Old Bailey was told. Rishon Florant, 17, of Peterborough Road, Waltham Forest, was accused of delivering the fatal wound. He denied being involved and told jurors he had been wrongly identified on CCTV of the attack. Acid attack on market trader in Walthamstow High Street 21 June 2019 read … A market trader has been rushed to hospital after two men wearing burkas threw acid over him. Police and paramedics were called to Walthamstow High Street at 6.40am this morning after a man in his 40s ran into a shop screaming for help. He had been setting up his stall when two men reportedly tapped him on the shoulder before throwing a corrosive substance at his face - believed to be acid. Staff at the shop doused his face with water, while others chased the attackers and a customer called for an ambulance. His attackers ran off towards a parked car and fled the scene. Area at 'breaking point' calls for action on antisocial behaviour 1 June 2019 read … Campaigners are calling for extra powers to stop anti-social behaviour in parks after the situation reached “breaking point”. Waltham Forest councillors Selina Seesunkur and Jemma Hemsted last year called for a Public Space Protection Order for the green spaces at The Mount, Albert Crescent and Memorial Park, saying street drinking and anti-social behaviour had become commonplace. The order would mean enforcement officers – volunteers who work alongside the police and the council to patrol public areas – could issue on-the-spot fines of up to £400. The Labour-run council rejected this saying there was not enough evidence of the need for an order. But after a street-cleaner was recently attacked while on duty in South Chingford, the two councillors are urging the public to sign a petition to strengthen a future application. Cllr Hemsted (Con, Valley) said: “The situation is at breaking point and is totally unacceptable and will not be allowed to continue. The Mount should be a place for all residents to enjoy and not for a small minority to ruin.“We really hope that all residents will get behind our campaign so that we might all have a much more peaceful summer.” |

These two members were arrested in October 2018 following a series of dawn raids in Waltham Forest. The 19 men and three women were arrested by officers from Trident, following an intelligence-led operation, codenamed Operation Nieuport, which targeted violent offenders and gang activity in East London. During the course of the raids, drugs were seized, along with cash, mobile phone handsets, a handgun, a Samurai sword, three machetes and a can of pepper spray. |

A teenager has been locked up for throwing incredibly strong alkaline in two men's faces. 15 March 2019 read … At 1.33pm on February 12 the 16-year-old from Walthamstow became involved in a fight on Argyle Square, Kings Cross. The groups of men involved then headed to the nearby Cresfield Street where the suspect approached his victims - two men aged 19 and 20 - and squirted a noxious liquid in their faces. The victims were found nearby being treated for facial injuries by paramedics after an ambulance was flagged down. They were then taken to a central London hospital. Forensic examinations were conducted and the liquid was later found to be alkali of the highest Ph level outside of laboratory conditions. On Wednesday, February 13 the suspect was arrested at his home address having been identified from CCTV. Having previously pleaded guilty to throwing a corrosive substance with intent at Highbury Corner Youth Court on Friday, 15 February, the teenager was sentenced to three years' imprisonment. |

Those living on Manor Road, Walthamstow were dismayed when a number of cars were keyed along their street at the start of this year. The culprit of one such keying was caught on CCTV and subsequently found guilty of one offence of criminal damage. Mahmut Altun, 50 of Manor Road, pleaded guilty at the hearing at Thames Magistrates Court on Friday, March 22, and was fined £1,400 to give in compensation to his neighbour. |

The victim, David Martinez, 26, was found in the street with multiple knife wounds on Wednesday afternoon in Leyton. Mr Martinez was a Spanish national and although formal identification has not yet taken place, detectives are confident he is the victim. Six teenage girls were arrested at Walthamstow bus station on Tuesday evening after police responded to reports of a fight. Officers were called to Selborne Walk, Walthamstow, at around 3.50pm to reports of a fight involving “a number of youths”. When they arrived at the scene, all those involved had fled except for one teenager girl whom they spoke with. Less than two hours later, at around 5.45pm, police were again called to reports of a fight at nearby Walthamstow bus station. A spokesman for the Met said: “Five female youths were arrested at the scene on suspicion of affray, and one female youth was arrested on suspicion of common assault. “They have been taken to east London police stations and remain in custody. “The bus station has now re-opened. Scenes of 'chaos' at McDonald's after teenagers set off fireworks inside restaurant 2 November 2018 read ... A McDonald’s restaurant was temporarily closed after up to 50 youths gathered inside and set off fireworks. One man who works at the fast-food joint in Hoe Street, Walthamstow, described scenes of “chaos” as teenagers ran behind the counters into the kitchen to escape the fireworks. The restaurant remained closed for two hours while the incident was dealt with. McDonald's has been contacted for comment. It came just one day after police were called to the corner of Hoe Street and Granville Road to reports of youths throwing fireworks at vehicles. The shocking death toll of teenagers stabbed and shot to death in London has risen to 15, three months after Elijah Dornelly was killed in Walthamstow. In April, Scotland Yard recorded a surge of 51 per cent in gun crime and a 34 per cent rise in knife crime in Waltham Forest. Elijah was walking home with a friend from an anti-knife rally before his attackers pounced on him and made off on bicycles. In just three months another six young men have found the same fate, with two teenagers losing their lives in 24 hours on Friday (August 8). |

Neighbours describe 'horror' scenes as cars smashed and missiles thrown in riot in Church Road, Leyton 27 July 2017 read … Hundreds of youths gathered in Church Road, Leyton on Wednesday, July 26 after being refused entry to a party in nearby Willow Brook Primary School. Cars parked on the road were jumped upon and had their windscreens smashed while traffic was brought to a standstill. Riot police were called in at 9pm and it took three hours for the crowd to be dispersed. One police officer was injured after missiles were thrown from the crowd. An elderly resident who has lived in the street for 12 years said: “When I heard the noise I turned off all my lights and peeked out through the curtains. “I saw people jumping on cars and smashing windscreens. It was absolute horror. “I was so afraid I closed my curtains and didn’t want to be seen. It was terrible. I was getting messages from neighbours to see if I was ok. “There was so much noise. There was a line of police from one side of the road to the other and they had shields and were covering their heads.” Another witness said she believes the youths, who looked to be in their late teens or early 20s were drunk because of the “hysterical” way they were behaving. |

Gun crime soars by 51 per cent in Waltham Forest 13 April 2017 read … Scotland Yard registered annual rises across a number of serious offence categories in Waltham Forest over the past 12 months. GUN crime offences in Waltham Forest have surged by 51 per cent in the last year, according to Scotland Yard. Knife crime offences resulting in an injury also increased, by 22 per cent to 155 from 2016 to 2017, compared to 127 offences the year before. Robbery in the borough is up 10 per cent from the year before, with 651 offences, while sexual offences also jumped 12 per cent with 539 offences recorded. Islamaphobic hate crime is up 16 per cent while fraud offences soared by a staggering 46 per cent from the previous year. |
