More than a thousand children were caught with weapons in school last year, according to a survey of 29 police forces in England and Wales.
The weapons included knives, blades, knuckledusters and a Taser stun gun, the Press Association survey found.
The children included a 14-year-old with a sword and a four-year-old with an unnamed weapon.
Head teachers' leader Geoff Barton said the findings were "grim but unsurprising".
The survey, which follows concern about rising levels of knife crime, was based on Freedom of Information data from police forces.

Knife crime in England and Wales rose to record levels last year, data shows.
Police recorded 40,829 offences involving knives or sharp instruments in 2018, up 6% on the year before.
The Office for National Statistics said cases of murder and manslaughter, excluding terror attacks, increased by 12%. There were 732 killings, up from 655 in 2017 - the highest since 2007.

A 17-year-old boy has been stabbed in Walthamstow, east London, Scotland Yard said.
Police were called to Carisbrooke Road at 6.41pm on Sunday to reports of a stabbing.
Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended and found a 17-year-old boy with stab injuries.
He was taken to hospital and his injuries are not said to be life-threatening.
So far there have been no arrests, police said, and a crime scene remains in place.

Two men who tried to post almost £1 million worth of cocaine to Australia in hollowed out books have been jailed.
Glen Appleby, 53, of Chingford, and his accomplice Marc Warner attempted to post the class A drugs using a high-end department store shipping service, in Brompton Road, Knightsbridge.
The court heard how on Saturday, March 9 security staff at the store became suspicious of the two men after watching them on CCTV trade items while hidden behind a bookshelf.

An RSPCA and police raid uncovered a gang of bird lovers meeting up in a pub to trade in wild goldfinches, it has been revealed.
They found 40 cages of birds when they caught several members of the group red-handed at The Bell pub in Leystonstone, east London.
Eight men aged 26 to 68, from London, Essex, Kent, County Durham and West Yorkshire, were handed fines after admitting possession of wild birds at the pub on February 2.

Glendon Spence, 23, and his friends sought refuge at the Marcus Lipton Youth Centre in Brixton when two hooded teenagers from Waltham Forest and Loughton ran at them armed with large knives.
Mr Spence tripped and fell by a table tennis table and was set upon by one of the youths in a "swift and merciless" attack in front of horrified staff and youngsters.

A young man was shot dead by mistake in a "ruthless and planned attack" as part of a bloody turf war by rival youths, a court has heard.
Joseph Williams-Torres, 20, was targeted by three hooded youths as he sat in a van with a friend in Walthamstow, east London on the evening of March 14 last year.
The attackers had spied Mr Williams-Torres, then pulled out a gun and fired before running off in less than two minutes, the Old Bailey was told.
The victim was hit in the chest and legs and died on his way to hospital less than an hour later.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward following a rush hour assault.
The victim, a man in his thirties, was repeatedly punched in the face on board a Victoria Line train in north London.
The assault happened at approximately 7.40am on September 16; British Transport Police have only just issued an appeal for information.
The victim had asked another man to be quiet as he was shouting. The man responded by assaulting the victim, causing a cut to his inner lip, laceration to his eyebrow and a dislodged tooth.
A 28-year-old man from Walthamstow was arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm. He has since been bailed as enquiries continue.

A man has been jailed for firearms offences after shots were fired at a group of people in a street.
Daniel Fakoya, 18, of Priory Court, E17 was one of three men travelling down High Road, Leyton, when they began shooting from their Volvo at around 11pm on December 17 last year.
The armed gang then chased two men into an off-licence but after losing sight of them, they left.
They jumped back into the car and sped away from the scene.
But within five minutes, the car had crashed into a shopfront in St James' Street, E17.
The gang fled the crash scene and when police searched the abandoned car, they found a handgun, ammunition and two bottles of ammonia.
The handgun was located in the driver's footwell.

A murder investigation is underway after a man died following a shooting.
Officers were called at 9:27am on Tuesday, September 17, to reports of a man suffering gunshot injuries at a residential block in Lansdowne Road, Walthamstow.
The man – 33-year-old Mark McCann-Barrett from Waltham Cross – was taken to an east London hospital for treatment. He died in hospital on Monday, September 30. His next of kin are aware.

A man has been charged with 17 offences with one including a murder which happened more than a decade ago.
Aman Vyas, 35, was charged upon his arrival at Heathrow Airport on Friday, October 4, after he was extradited from India back in 2009.
He has been charged with the murder and rape of Michelle Samaraweera who died after being attacked in Walthamstow on May 30, 2009.
Other offences are alleged to have taken place at locations across Walthamstow between March 24, 2009 and May 30 2009.
Vyas will appear in custody at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court today, Saturday, October 5.

A gangster helped lure and trap two rival drug dealers before taking part in their "swift, frenzied and utterly brutal" murders, a court has heard.
Abderrahmane Lounici, 26, was allegedly part of a group who led Josiah Manful and Aaron Carriere down a quiet residential street before their vehicle was boxed in by four cars and the pair were stabbed 24 times in under a minute, jurors at the Old Bailey were told. Both died at the scene in Montague Road, Leytonstone in the early hours of March 1, 2014.

Police were called to the Phoenix Snooker Club on Lea Bridge Road, Leyton, shortly before 3am on Sunday, July 7, to reports of gunshots.
Officers, including firearms officers, attended and found 27-year-old Grineo Daka, who was from Stratford, suffering from a gunshot injury.
Despite the efforts of officers and the London Ambulance Service (LAS) he was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin were informed.

A woman reportedly had her headscarf pulled off and was racially abused while walking along a street. 
Police said the alleged victim, a 42-year-old woman was walking from Hoe Street to Edison Close in Walthamstow on Sunday, September 1 when the incident happened.
Another woman, 32, who witnessed what happened tried to help and the suspect then assaulted her - police said.
A 61-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of two counts of racially aggravated assault occasioning actual bodily harm. She has been bailed to a date in late September. Waltham Forest Police is investigating the incident as a hate crime.

A police officer has been stabbed with a machete in a "frenzied" attack as he tried to stop a van in Leyton, east London.
The officer, aged in his 30s, was stabbed multiple times but managed to use his Taser to subdue the suspect.
His colleague then stepped in to arrest the suspect following the stabbing, shortly after midnight.
Police said he was expected to recover from his injuries.

Baballah is charged with two rapes, two attempted rapes and four counts of robbery which reportedly look place within 11 days across Waltham Forest and Newham.

A woman has been jailed for a minimum of 17 years for murdering her neighbour.
Carol Campling, 39, of Garenne Court, Warren Road, E4, attacked 48-year-old Mark Smith with broken bottles, scissors, and an ashtray, before leaving him to die at his flat in Warren Road, Chingford.
At the Old Bailey on June 7, Campling was found guilty of murder and today, Friday, she was sentenced to life in prison, serving a minimum of 17 years.

A market trader has been rushed to hospital after two men wearing burkas threw acid over him.
Police and paramedics were called to Walthamstow High Street at 6.40am this morning after a man in his 40s ran into a shop screaming for help.
He had been setting up his stall when two men reportedly tapped him on the shoulder before throwing a corrosive substance at his face - believed to be acid.
Staff at the shop doused his face with water, while others chased the attackers and a customer called for an ambulance.
His attackers ran off towards a parked car and fled the scene.
Police cordoned off the area and have confirmed they have launched an investigation into the attack.

Campaigners are calling for extra powers to stop anti-social behaviour in parks after the situation reached “breaking point”.
Waltham Forest councillors Selina Seesunkur and Jemma Hemsted last year called for a Public Space Protection Order for the green spaces at The Mount, Albert Crescent and Memorial Park, saying street drinking and anti-social behaviour had become commonplace.
The order would mean enforcement officers – volunteers who work alongside the police and the council to patrol public areas – could issue on-the-spot fines of up to £400.
The Labour-run council rejected this saying there was not enough evidence of the need for an order.
But after a street-cleaner was recently attacked while on duty in South Chingford, the two councillors are urging the public to sign a petition to strengthen a future application.
Cllr Hemsted (Con, Valley) said: “The situation is at breaking point and is totally unacceptable and will not be allowed to continue. The Mount should be a place for all residents to enjoy and not for a small minority to ruin.“We really hope that all residents will get behind our campaign so that we might all have a much more peaceful summer.”

Detectives are linking the death of a 43-year-old man who had met a stranger on dating app Grindr with the rape of another man days earlier.
The body of 43-year-old Adrian Murphy was found at an address in an upmarket part of Battersea, south London, last week.
Tests failed to establish the exact cause of his death, but police say property had been stolen from the premises, and believe he was lured to the flat after chatting with a stranger on the gay dating app.
Police are now linking the death of Mr Murphy, who lived in nearby Wandsworth, to the rape and robbery of a 40-year-old man who had invited a man he had met online to his flat 15 miles away in Walthamstow, east London, five days earlier.

Police and the London Ambulance Service were called to Lea Bridge Road, Leyton, at approximately 10pm yesterday (Thursday, May 16) to reports of a collision between a car and a pedestrian.
The 81-year-old was treated at the scen before being taken to hospital. He remains in a critical condition.

Ahsanullah Nawazai, who was also known as Marshall, was stabbed as he sat in a grey Nissan Qashqai in Walshingham Way, London Colney, on November 28 last year.
Mr Nawazai, from Walthamstow, managed to get out of the car and was found collapsed and bleeding in the street by a jogger outside St Bernadette Catholic Primary School, St Albans Crown Court heard.

Two women were abducted and raped by a man in a car, police have confirmed.
The Met Police says one woman was abducted in Chingford, Essex, at 12.30am yesterday, and a second woman was abducted from a street in Edgware at 12.15pm the same day.
They were both taken to Watford.
They later managed to escape from their attacker in Osborne Road, North Watford.
The women, both aged in their 20s, are receiving specialist care.

A teenager who stabbed a man to death in a flat has been jailed for manslaughter.
The teenager, who is aged 17 and so cannot be named, was found guilty of the manslaughter of 42-year-old Joseph Cullimore at Southwark Crown Court yesterday (Thursday, May 2) and sentenced to six years imprisonment. Police were called to reports of a stabbing at an address in Flaxen Road, Chingford, on Friday, August 17 at around 4.40am.
Officers found Mr Cullimore suffering from stab injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 5.22am.

Kamali Gabbiddon-Lynck, 19, was murdered on Vincent Road in Wood Green on Friday, February 22.
Mr Gabbidon-Lynck and a second man, aged 20, were found both suffering from stab wounds.
They were treated by paramedics and then taken to hospital, but Mr Gabbidon-Lynck was pronounced dead shortly after 3am.

Police were called yesterday evening, April 24, at 7.50pm to High Road in Leytonstone near the London Overground station.
A 21-year-old man was found suffering from stab wounds and was taken to hospital.
Later, officers were informed that a 19-year-old male self-presented at another East London hospital also suffering from stab wounds.
Both men's conditions are being treated as non life-threatening at this time.

A man has been admitted to hospital after being stabbed during a fight.  Met Police were called to reports of a brawl between a group of men on High Street, Walthamstow, at around 4.30pm today.
Officers found a man, 20s, near the junction with Hoe Street suffering a stab wound to his leg.  He was taken to an east London hospital for treatment. His condition is not life-threatening.

A triple stabbing involving a 15-year-old and two 19-year olds has taken place.
Police were called to Lukin Cresent in Chingford at 3.07pm today, April 8, to reports of a stabbing.
A 15-year-old boy suffering from multiple stab wounds was found.
Shortly after, Police were then called at 3.19pm to nearby Westminster Gardens where two 19-year-old men were found with stab injuries.
All three victims have been taken to hospital, but none of the victims are in a life-threatening condition.
Four arrest have been made.

The final two members of a 22-person drug dealing network have been jailed.
These two members were arrested in October 2018 following a series of dawn raids in Waltham Forest.
The 19 men and three women were arrested by officers from Trident, following an intelligence-led operation, codenamed Operation Nieuport, which targeted violent offenders and gang activity in East London.
During the course of the raids, drugs were seized, along with cash, mobile phone handsets, a handgun, a Samurai sword, three machetes and a can of pepper spray.

A murder investigation has been launched after a man was killed after an assault.
Police were called to Hoe Street in Walthamstow at 6.44am on Tuesday, April 3, to reports of a man having been assaulted.
Met officers and the London Ambulance Service attended the scene.
The victim was a 60-year-old man found suffering from a head injury.
He was taken to an East London hospital where he died at 5.40pm on Wednesday, April 3.
The next of kin have now been informed
A 44-year-old man in Dagenham was arrested on suspicion of murder yesterday, April 4 at around 10.50pm.
Detectives from the Met's Homicide and Major Crime Command are leading the investigation.
He was taken to an East London police station where he remains in custody.
Police enquiries continue.

At 1.33pm on February 12 the 16-year-old from Walthamstow became involved in a fight on Argyle Square, Kings Cross.
The groups of men involved then headed to the nearby Cresfield Street where the suspect approached his victims - two men aged 19 and 20 - and squirted a noxious liquid in their faces.
The victims were found nearby being treated for facial injuries by paramedics after an ambulance was flagged down.
They were then taken to a central London hospital.
Forensic examinations were conducted and the liquid was later found to be alkali of the highest Ph level outside of laboratory conditions.
On Wednesday, February 13 the suspect was arrested at his home address having been identified from CCTV.
Having previously pleaded guilty to throwing a corrosive substance with intent at Highbury Corner Youth Court on Friday, 15 February, the teenager was sentenced to three years' imprisonment.

Those living on Manor Road, Walthamstow were dismayed when a number of cars were keyed along their street at the start of this year.

Officers attended the scene and a Taser was discharged.

The man stabbed in what police believe was a follow-up to an argument in London has been named.
The victim, David Martinez, 26, was found in the street with multiple knife wounds on Wednesday afternoon in Leyton.
Mr Martinez was a Spanish national and although formal identification has not yet taken place, detectives are confident he is the victim.
Metropolitan Police officers, London Ambulance Service and London Air Ambulance were called to North Birkbeck Road in Leyton on Wednesday at 4.26pm to reports of a stabbing.
Officers have said the killing followed a clash that started in a nearby residential address.
It is thought that the victim and the perpetrator knew each other and that the killing was not gang related.
After Mr Martinez was stabbed six times - at least once in the neck - he collapsed in the arms of strangers on North Birkbeck Road.

A stabbing and a knife-related arrest were reported within 35 minutes of each other this weekend.
The first incident happened at 4.35pm on Saturday (March 2) when police were called to a report of a young man suffering from stab injuries to his leg on Woodland Road in Chingford.  The victim, believed to be in his early teens, was taken to an east London hospital where he remains in a stable condition.
The second incident occurred at KFC in Albert Crescent, Chingford at 5.08pm on Saturday following reports that youths were present with one suspected of holding a knife.  Officers attended and two male youths were arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon.   The police are currently unable to say if the incidents are linked.

A woman and two men have been taken to hospital in east London after a triple stabbing at a property in Leyton.
The female victim, believed to be in her 30s, was attacked along with two men at an address in Church Road on Saturday afternoon.
She remains in critical condition following the stabbing. The slash wounds suffered by the two men were not life-threatening, according to the Metropolitan Police.
An air ambulance was also sent to the scene. A spokesperson for London Ambulance Service said: “We sent three ambulance crews, a paramedic in a car and an incident response officer, and also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.  “We treated two men and a woman at the scene and took all three as a priority to hospital.”

Officers have cordoned off a section of the street where the attack took place this afternoon and they remain at the scene.

An elderly woman was mugged on her doorstep by three people who followed her home. The woman, in her 80s, drew out her pension in Station Road, Chingford, on Friday and took the 313 bus home to Kings Head Hill.
But three people - two Asian males and one Asian female - got the same bus and approached her outside her house.
They waved a book in her face to distract her and confused, she went into her house. But there she realised her purse, which had £238 in it, was gone.
The incident happened at around 1.45pm on Friday.

A 24-year-old man has been arrested after police uncovered a large quantity of cannabis and two knives while searching a property.
The Met’s Violent Crime Task Force, backed up by officers from Hatch Lane and Hale End neighbourhood policing teams carried out the search in Chingford at around 8am on Tuesday (May 15).
Police have not released details about the exact location of the property. The man was arrested on suspicion of robbery and possession of Class B drugs with intent to supply and has been released under investigation.

Police were called to Chingford Mount Road at 4.14pm to reports of an injured male.  At the scene a 15-year-old boy was found suffering from a stab wound to the chest.

Police were called to Vallentin Road at around 9.50pm on Monday evening to reports a man had been injured. Officers and London Ambulance Service paramedics attended the street and found man, believed to be in his 40s, suffering from a stab wound.

A second teenager has been charged with the murder of a man who was fatally shot in Walthamstow.
The boy, 17, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged on Wednesday with the murder of Joseph Williams-Torres.
He will appear in custody at Stratford Youth Court on today. A 15-year-old boy who was charged with murder on Tuesday appeared in custody at Stratford Youth Court yesterday.
Mr Williams-Torres of Walthamstow was gunned down on March 14 while sitting in a stationary car in Essex Close near the junction with Pretoria Avenue.
He died on the way to hospital and a post-mortem gave the cause of death as a gunshot wound to the chest.

 Hundreds of youths gathered in Church Road, Leyton on Wednesday, July 26 after being refused entry to a party in nearby Willow Brook Primary School.
Cars parked on the road were jumped upon and had their windscreens smashed while traffic was brought to a standstill.
Riot police were called in at 9pm and it took three hours for the crowd to be dispersed. One police officer was injured after missiles were thrown from the crowd.
An elderly resident who has lived in the street for 12 years said: “When I heard the noise I turned off all my lights and peeked out through the curtains. “I saw people jumping on cars and smashing windscreens. It was absolute horror. “I was so afraid I closed my curtains and didn’t want to be seen. It was terrible. I was getting messages from neighbours to see if I was ok.
“There was so much noise. There was a line of police from one side of the road to the other and they had shields and were covering their heads.”
Another witness said she believes the youths, who looked to be in their late teens or early 20s were drunk because of the “hysterical” way they were behaving.

GUN crime offences in Waltham Forest have surged by 51 per cent in the last year, according to Scotland Yard.
